Get Active in Older Life

As life moves on, routines can change. You may feel busier than expected, or at times a little less
connected than you’d like to be. Caring for others, managing health concerns, or adjusting to
retirement can quietly take their toll. Energy can dip, motivation can fade, and staying active can start
to feel like more of a challenge than a choice.

But keeping moving doesn’t need to be strenuous or time‑consuming. Gentle bursts of activity woven
into everyday life can make a real difference. A short walk to the shops, stretching while the kettle
boils, or stepping outside for some fresh air can help lift your mood, support mobility and bring a
sense of routine back into the day. These small moments of movement help reduce tiredness, build
confidence and support independence. It’s not about pushing yourself, it’s about moving in ways that
feel right for you. And best of all, staying active doesn’t have to cost anything.

Moving with others can make it more enjoyable too. Walking with a neighbour, joining a local group, or
spending active time with friends or family helps you stay motivated and connected. Start gently, start
today, and take a positive step for yourself. Every movement counts, and your wellbeing is worth it.

What is Move for your Mind?
Find Your Active: Move For Your Mind brings about a new chapter from the successful Find Your
Active campaign, by highlighting the powerful connection between physical activity and mental
wellbeing.
From walking with friends, to dancing in the kitchen, or finding calm in a yoga class, this campaign
celebrates movement as a tool, not just for physical health, but as a catalyst for improving mood,
reducing stress and building resilience.

Powered by Essex Public Health and in partnership with Mind in Essex, the campaign brings together
expertise in mental health with a passion for helping people discover movement that genuinely
supports their wellbeing. By combining our strengths, we hope to empower individuals to take those
first steps, find what works for them, and feel the positive impact that movement can have on
everyday life. Find out more at www.activeessex.org/find-your-active

This months focus is on our older adults audience (65+ year olds) and the importance of
