To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2024, we sat down with our new apprentice Hannah (pictured on the right) to find out how her first couple months at Thurrock and Brentwood Mind have been.
What is your role at Thurrock and Brentwood Mind? My role at Thurrock and Brentwood Mind is an HR Administrator studying via an apprenticeship with The LightBulb.
When did you join the organisation? I recently joined the organisation in November 2023.
What were you doing before? Before starting my apprenticeship at Thurrock and Brentwood Mind I was undergoing a Business Administration apprenticeship as a Recruitment Coordinator.
What apprenticeship are you working towards? I have just successfully completed my Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship, and have enrolled straight onto the Level 3 HR Support to continue my career pathway.
What made you want to undertake an apprenticeship? I wanted to undertake a further apprenticeship as I find this is the best way for me to learn. Once I decided to pursue a career in HR, I knew an apprenticeship was how I wanted to study.
Is the apprenticeship what you thought it would be? I am very early on in my Level 3 HR Support apprenticeship as I have only recently enrolled, however looking at the curriculum plan it is everything I expected it to be so far! I’m looking forward to learning HR in the Charity/Mental Health sector.
What does a typical day look like for you? My day consists of various tasks and responsibilities. I maintain and report on HR/ training data, use my creative and previous Recruitment Coordinator skills by designing and marketing job advertisements. Additionally, I also support the recruitment process, compose HR related correspondence and am allocated time in my working week to complete off-the-job training towards my apprenticeship. I’ve also had the opportunity to complete my Mental Health First Aid and am a Communications Ambassador for the organisation. My role involves a wide range of HR related tasks!
What is your favourite thing about working here? My favourite thing about working at Thurrock and Brentwood Mind is that every day is never the same – it always consists of something new. I also enjoy the people I work with – plus, my line manager shares my love of chocolate buttons! 😉
Tell us something interesting about you. Something interesting about me is that I have achieved grades in singing.
We can’t wait to see Hannah further progress her ‘Skills for Life’ via our HR apprenticeship pathway! In order to find out more information about National Apprenticeship Week please visit their website https://www.apprenticeships.gov.uk/influencers/national-apprenticeship-week.
