Youthful Wellbeing (18-25)

Young boy on a sofa

The transition into young adulthood, particularly in the age range of 18-25 years, can be a period filled with unique challenges. It’s a time of self-discovery, independence, and new responsibilities, and we understand that it can often be overwhelming.

Our commitment is to be a reliable anchor for you during this transformative phase, offering guidance and assistance as you navigate the journey toward becoming the best version of yourself.

We understand mental health and wellbeing can affect you at any age.

We’re here for you if you’re finding things hard. We help everyone understand mental health problems can affect anyone at any age and we ensure no one has to feel alone.

The support we offer

The Youthful Wellbeing Service provides early intervention support for young adults aged 18-25 who are experiencing mental health problems. Together we consider the challenges of everyday life and develop a wellbeing plan which we help to put into action. We share our links to local organisations and opportunities which can help along the way. Available Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm with the option for evening or weekend sessions if needed.

Four local Minds work in partnership to support people across Mid and South Essex (Thurrock, Basildon, Brentwood, Billericay, Wickford, Chelmsford, Braintree, Maldon, Castlepoint, Rochford, Southend and surrounding areas).

Our Aims

  • To increase young adults’ knowledge, understanding and confidence to make decisions about their care and support
  • To increase young adults’ skills to self-manage and de-escalate emerging mental health problems and emotional distress
  • To improve young adults’ access to appropriate support and opportunities

Eligibility

  • Aged 18-25
  • GP within Mid and South Essex
  • Professional referral from Community Mental Health Team, Primary Care Network, GP surgery, Education, Health, Social Care, Youth, Voluntary, Community or Social Enterprise setting.

Mental Health Inequalities

Service Design Project

We believe that everyone should be able to access the health services that they need. The pandemic highlighted a higher need for mental health and wellbeing support for 18–25-year-olds, specifically those within marginalised communities.Through our project we are increasing our understanding of people’s experiences

and what’s needed to ensure mental health services are inclusive and welcoming. So far, we have been working together with people from racially minoritised, LGBTQ+, Traveller, Gypsy and Roma Communities as well as Young Adult Carers.

The key themes that have arisen and are an area of focus are to:

  • Improve access
  • Greater representation
  • Raise awareness
  • Reduce stigma

Our Aims

  • To reduce mental health inequalities
  • To develop more inclusive mental health and wellbeing services

Eligibility

  • Aged 18-25
  • Live in Mid and South Essex
  • From a marginalised group
  • Experience of mental health problems, or supporting someone who has
  • Want to make a change to services
  • Some time to volunteer/share your experience

Volunteer Youth Champions

Our Volunteer Youth Champions are committed to using their own experiences to make a difference for others in their local community. They meet regularly and get involved in social action to help raise awareness about mental health and reduce stigma. Some of the ways they have done this is through social media campaigns, making videos, promotion events and talking to students and teachers at local schools and colleges.

They ensure that the ‘youth voice’ is heard both within and outside of Thurrock and Brentwood Mind to help us to tailor our services to young people.
We provide training and support and opportunities to meet socially to ensure an enjoyable experience of volunteering.

Our Aims

To give young people the opportunity to:

  • make a difference by raising awareness and reduce stigma
  • share their experience of mental health problems for the benefit of others
  • shape mental health services so that they are accessible and inclusive
  • develop skills, self-esteem and confidence whilst volunteering in a charity
  • socialise with people with similar experiences and have fun

Eligibility

  • Aged 16-25
  • Live in Thurrock or surrounding area
  • Experience of mental health problems, or supporting someone who has
  • Available to volunteer some evenings and occasional weekends
